Respiratory viral co-infections among SARS-CoV-2 cases confirmed by virome capture sequencing

چکیده

Abstract Accumulating evidence supports the high prevalence of co-infections among Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) patients, and their potential to worsen clinical outcome COVID-19. However, there are few data on Southern Hemisphere populations, most studies date have investigated a narrow spectrum viruses using targeted qRT-PCR. Here we assessed respiratory viral SARS-CoV-2 patients in Australia, through virome characterization. Nasopharyngeal swabs 92 SARS-CoV-2-positive cases were sequenced pan-viral hybrid-capture Twist Virus Panel. In total, 8% co-infected, with rhinovirus (6%) or influenzavirus (2%). capture also achieved near-complete sequencing (> 90% coverage, > tenfold depth) genome 95% specimens Ct < 30. Our results highlight importance assessing all pathogens symptomatic dual-functionality hybrid-capture, for whole-genome without amplicon generation simultaneous identification ease.

Erratum for Briese et al., “Virome Capture Sequencing Enables Sensitive Viral Diagnosis and Comprehensive Virome Analysis”

Insensitivity and technical complexity have impeded the implementation of high-throughput nucleic acid sequencing in differential diagnosis of viral infections in clinical laboratories. Here, we describe the development of a virome capture sequencing platform for vertebrate viruses (VirCapSeq-VERT) that increases the sensitivity of sequence-based virus detection and characterization. The system...

Enhanced virome sequencing using targeted sequence capture.

Metagenomic shotgun sequencing (MSS) is an important tool for characterizing viral populations. It is culture independent, requires no a priori knowledge of the viruses in the sample, and may provide useful genomic information. However, MSS can lack sensitivity and may yield insufficient data for detailed analysis. We have created a targeted sequence capture panel, ViroCap, designed to enrich n...

SARS-CoV-2 infection: its psychiatric manifestations

Background:  The clinical presentation of SARS-CoV-2 infection was initially dominated by respiratory symptoms. However the clinical spectrum is wide and neuropsychiatric syndromes are also a source of medical concern. Our aims are to present an atypical clinical presentation of SARS-CoV-2 infection characterized by auditory hallucinations and unusual behavior and to emphasize the diversity of ...

COVID-19: a hypothesis to prevent SARS-CoV-2 from entering respiratory cells

Coronaviruses (CoVs) are a group of viruses that induce infection in the respiratory and other systems in the human body. There are two coronaviruses that transmitted from animals to humans including severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) and the Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS) (1). The novel coronavirus that appeared at first in Wuhan, China, in December 2019 was named as severe acut...
